Molasses Cookies


  1. 1/2 cup + 3 Tbsp Butter
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1/4 cup dark molasses
  4. 1 egg
  5. 2 cups flour
  6. 1/2 tsp each fresh ground cloves, powdered ginger, salt
  7. 1 tsp cinnamon
  8. 2 tsp baking soda


  1. Melt butter – then cool butter slightly
  2. Add sugar, molasses, and egg
  3. Sift dry ingredients together and then add to the wet
  4. Mix everything together well
  5. Chill dough for about an hour
  6. Roll into 1 inch balls
  7. Roll balls in sugar & bake for 8-10 minutes (leave at least 1.5 inches of space so they can grow as they bake
  8. As you take them out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for 1-3 min, Then transfer them to a cooling rack.
