La Colina Linda B&B

Visited this lovely B&B over the weekend – Read our review of it!

Ugly Duck Travel Blog

We had the amazing good fortune to meet Kathy and Jeri at our local farmer’s market.  Turns out they own and operate the La Colina Linda B&B.  They invited us out to visit their property, see their extensive gardens, and spend some time with them. La Colina Linda Farm and B & B-8628

To start with, both Jeri and Kathy are lovely.  Both have been in Southern Illinois for a long time and are very knowledgeable of the region.  Both have a variety of interests and were great to talk with.  It was fun to trade recipes with Kathy while learning from both about their garden, sustainable farming techniques, and about how they are investing in their local community by teaching others to grow and cook vegetables.

Panther’s Den Hike

No April Fools here- A beautiful hike in Southern Illinois called “Panter’s Den.”  This hike is located very close to the “Blue Sky” winery in Makanda, IL.

Here are some photos I took along the hike.

HDR Night time photos of Carbondale x-mas eve

Aside from the clock-tower, all shots are of scenes of Carbondale, IL – taken with a Canon 10-22 3.5-4.5 lens.  The clock tower is on the Southern Illinois University campus and was shot with a Canon 70-200 2.8L IS lens.
All shots were processed with Photoshop 5 and Lightroom 3.  All are HDR shots.

Little Grand Canyon Hike

Spent the late afternoon today hiking with a friend of mine in the Little Grand Canyon – near Murphysboro, IL.

We took our cameras and got a few fun photos.  Most of these shots are with a Canon t1i & 70-200 2.8 IS or the 10-22 mm 3.5-4.5. All post processing done in Lightroom 3.0.
At the end of the drive home from the hike, the moon was rising- so we got two shots of that.  I think we might try to ‘stalk’ the moon for a better (tripod) shot tomorrow night.

Glass Pumpkin Sale

Apparently it is an annual event in Carbondale for the glass blowing students of SIU to sell their glass pumpkins.  I went to the sale & got a few photos.  Also included is one pretty sun setting/wild plant blowing photo.  Enjoy!
